We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Contract Grant Writer to support our pursuit of funding opportunities from the Department of Defense (DoD) with a focus on training and education programs. This role is ideal for a seasoned grant professional who thrives in a flexible, independent environment and has a strong track record of winning federal awards—particularly within the DoD ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, research, and evaluate relevant grant opportunities, primarily from the DoD and other federal agencies.
  • Lead and manage the full lifecycle of the grant writing process, from initial concept development through submission.
  • Write compelling, clear, and technically sound proposals tailored to DoD RFPs and funding announcements.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, project managers, and finance teams to gather necessary information and ensure proposal alignment.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of DoD funding priorities, guidelines, and submission platforms (e.g., SAM.gov, Grants.gov).
  • Prepare and submit Letters of Intent (LOIs), white papers, and pre-proposals when required.
  • Track submissions, maintain a calendar of deadlines, and coordinate post-submission follow-ups.
  • Contribute to the development of standard templates, boilerplate content, and proposal toolkits.

Qualifications

  • Proven success in winning DoD or federal education/training grants.
  • 5+ years of professional grant writing experience, preferably with DoD agencies such as:

    • Defense Human Resources Activity (DHRA)
    • Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness
    • National Defense Education Program (NDEP)
    • STARBASE, Nunn-Perry, or related initiatives
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines without extensive oversight.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with federal funding systems (SAM.gov, Grants.gov, eBRAP, etc.).
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., GPC) a plus.
